The brief for this competition was to design an extension to an existing shelter for victims of domestic violence in North Dublin.

The brief called for a consciously private building, however a building of this nature should not feel institutional. We feIt it was important for the children who use the facility to have the possibility to interact and learn from others in order to socialise and normalise.

Our design sought to find a subtle balance - to be a space of refuge & escape, and yet be an open social environment.
