The client for Airfield Road Mews requested that we transform a row of single storey sheds which were located along a laneway in Rathgar into residential acommodation.
The project began as a 3 storey structure composed of interlocking boxes with a clear articulation between the two residential units. The larger of the two units was clad in brick with rhythmic apertures which contrasted with the smooth white render and large opes
of the smaller unit. This scheme was granted permission in 2007 but revisions were necessary to overcome objections by local residents.
A revised 2 storey scheme was prepared which replaces the earlier language of cubist volumes with a more dynamic form. The challenge was to create a building which allowed two separate units to read as one entity. |
