1.THE POTENTIAL FOR PROGRAMMATIC DIVERSITY AT THE CITY’S EDGE
The area of the proposed site comprises almost 36 hectares.
A progammatic site analysis of similarly sized portions of land reveals the disparity of urban texture and experience that currently exists between the historic city centre and its newly developed extremities.
Whereas one is richly layered and contains a diversity of scale, experience and useage, the other is uniform and devoid of either architectural or natural highlights.
Our aim was to explore how the variety of spatial experience and sense of space found in Galway’s city centre could be extended to its periphery.
