As the interval between the creation of an object and the moment of its preservation gets smaller, the amount of time it takes for a built artefact to gain "protected" status has been reduced from millennia to centuries, to decades to possibly less (ie. Dublin's Spire?).
As a city advances so does its range of artifacts to be preserved. This escalation of what needs to be preserved produces a spatial and energy demand on the host city which may feasibly counteract the original cultural benefits envisaged in their preservation |
