Throughout Civilisation old buildings were replaced by more efficient structures as land values increased. This process has been artificially curtailed by blanket bans on new structures, thereby hindering the generation of commerce that makes a city thrive.
Protected structures are the decadent remnants of a wasteful past, surviving only at the expensive whim of a romantic bureaucracy whose primary objective should be to ensure the prosperity and efficiency of the city.
The challenge is to find ways to restore these empty museum pieces to being efficient living buildings, whilst preserving their craft and cultural heritage. |
