The clients for this project desired a bright open plan extension which would balance the clutter and cramped existing rooms of their red-brick end of terrace house.
The first decision was to clear away the many badly built one storey elements which littered the rear of their property. From here we conceived the new extension as being wrapped in a clean white band which would bend and morph to perform various functions. To the front of the house it forms an entry canopy, to the street it peeps above the existing boundary wall and to rear it provides shading to the south facing accommodation and hollows out to become a planter box
